PHIRE Coordinator and SEA-PHAGES Project Materials Coordinator

Debbie is actively developing the phage discovery and genomics platform for advancing science education. She oversees program development for the PHIRE program and coordinates many aspects of the SEA-PHAGES program, and is spearheading methods to use a variety of Actinobacterial hosts for phage isolation, including Arthrobacter sp., Rhodococcus erythropolis, Gordonia terrae, Dietzia marisCorynebacterium viteraeruminis, and various Mycobacterium strains.  Debbie works closely with undergraduate student researchers in their quest to isolate and characterize bacteriophages of these hosts.

Prior to joining the Hatfull Lab, Debbie worked as both a Medical Technologist and Pathology Assistant at UMPC Presbyterian Hospital and as teacher in the Greater Latrobe School District.
